Domestic airline tickets now
have a quarter of the price taken up by hidden taxes and
costs, airlines have revealed.
Travellers are paying the
price of airport deregulation, fuel hikes and increased
airport security through a myriad of "taxes"
buried in the final ticket cost.
Fuel levies on each of the
major airlines, introduced in recent months because of
rising fuel prices, are further bumping up the price of air
travel.
"As a general rule they
make up about 25 per cent of our fares, but it varies a bit
from airport to airport," said Jetstar spokesman Simon
Westaway of the charges. More...

s
I begin to write this story, I am about 14 hours
into my Singapore Airlines flight, and I'm still
not restless.
I've slept nearly
six hours on the lie-flat business class seat.
I've watched one of 60 movies and two of 92
television shows on an entertainment system that
lets me start, stop, pause, fast forward and
rewind to suit my own whims and schedule.

Townsville
the gateway to such tropical delights as Magnetic Island is
a wonderful place to visit particularly to escape the cold
winter days.
Places to visit include
Museum of Tropical Queensland with breathtaking coral and
wonderful marine life or step next door to the HMS Pandora.
Favourite places to stop for a bite include Palmer Street
which holds some of Townsville's trendiest bars and
restaurants and C-Bar on the Strand which overlooks
beautiful waters and golden sand.
When visiting Townsville
make sure you check out the many valleys, mountains and
beautiful coastlines by hiring a small plane or head out to
"Maggie" Magnetic Island and try your hand at
snorkelling or kayaking.

Berlin: Claire Gray Travel Journal
Berlin is a vibrant city, well down
the road of establishing a new age, post war image. Stark
contrasts of ultra modern architecture around Potzdammer
Platz coexist right amongst the original 19th Century
buildings that escaped the widespread bombing in WW2. The city
is planned around a huge central garden called the Tiergarten
which gives the atmosphere a wonderful feeling of green open
spaces. World class museums and historical sites abound. Well
worth a visit.
