Welcome
to the first issue of Smart Travel Update for 2004. From what
we are hearing and experiencing already this year, it
will be a year of strong recovery for travel and tourism. People
are increasingly willing to travel in today's world, whether
it's to benefit their company's development or to enjoy a
wonderful exotic holiday. The difference now is, as you will
see from the increasing number of airlines and airports
escalating their security alert management, travel will be
safer than ever before. That will mean heavier flight
loads and possibly higher fares, highlighting the need to book
early and be sure you are obtaining the lowest logical fare
in all instances. For Australian travel, don't forget e-logic,
our online travel tool (point
and click for info). Now you can source both
Qantas and Virgin in the one request - too easy!
We are focused on delivering pertinent and
concise travel news and hot deals to you through this
newsletter to keep you a "smart traveller".
Happy New Year to you.
Claire Gray, Executive Director

Travelling to the USA?
There have been lots of
developments with regard to homeland security in the USA with lots
of new information being received daily. You can find out all you
need to know when travelling to, in, or through the USA by visiting
their Department
of Homeland Security website. We will also keep you up to
date with any developments.
A couple of potential initiatives
being considered are grading the risk each passenger could be in a
perceived threat to the aircraft. Also the US Federal Government is
considering a Registered Traveller Programme,
sometimes called "trusted traveller". Although the
Transportation Security Administration hasn't set a timetable. Under
the programme, any traveller could volunteer for a more thorough
background check and receive a card that ensures they won't be
targeted for additional screening, expediting travellers' processing
through security lines. The card would be tied to some form of
biometric identification, such as fingerprints or iris scanning.
Watch this space and we'll keep you updated
as developments happen

Undercover
armed security guards begin random patrols of flights between
Australia and Singapore on Tuesday, as part of a deal between
the two nations to boost aviation security in Southeast Asia.
Australia's
Justice Minister Chris Ellison said the air route to and from
Singapore is one of the busiest for Australia, with more than
12,000 flights a year by Qantas and Singapore Airlines.
Similar
air security deals were also being negotiated with the United
States and Canada, he said. More...

My
name is Michelle Hemingway and I
am the Travelogic Leisure Travel Specialist. Having
commenced here 4 months ago, I am really enjoying managing the
leisure requirement for all our very busy, and highly valued
clients (Michelle
comes to Travelogic with over 17 years of experience).
"It is
an enormously rewarding role to bring so much pleasure and
adventure. Let’s face it, holidays are pretty special! I have been fortunate
and quite brave travelling to most corners
of the globe. Of all the places I have visited, my true love is Africa, so I
can tell you anything you need to know about there! With other
trips under my belt, I also have a wide and varied experience no
matter where you are thinking of going. Just ask and I am sure
I'll be able to tell you."
"I
have acquired my Masters Certificate through the International
Cruise Council of Australia, which means I can also assist with
any cruising enquiry you have"
Michelle gained lots of her
experiences whilst working for the major agencies and is now
pleased and proud to have joined the Travelogic Team.
She is an integral part of the team and we are very delighted to
welcome her onboard.
"Thinking
of a holiday or have started planning your next trip. Give me a
call on 02 9230 7500 or email michelle.hemingway@travelogic.com.au." |
